Studio Sound Masterclass: Tarek Musa

TUESDAY 10th NOVEMBER 6pm - go to the Stream Room

Tarek Musa is a songwriter, producer and mixer based in Liverpool, UK. From teenage years spent skateboarding with The 1975 to international success with his band Spring King, Tarek Musa gives us the inside track on his favourite gear, why he loves the studio and how imposing creative limitations can give your music the edge. He has worked with some of the UK’s most exciting artists including Circa Waves, The Big Moon, Gengahr, Avalanche Party and Kagoule.

Tarek will host a studio sound masterclass looking at his studio, working practices, recording, mixing and mastering.

Creative Futures:
Role of the Entrepreneur Panel

MONDAY 16th NOVEMBER 7pm - go to the Stream Room

Panel exploring the future of entrepreneurship led by Carol Ann Whitehead FRSA (The Zebra Partnership and Diversity Director for Industry Week) to coincide with Global Entrepreneurship Week. Features Jacqueline Winstanley founder and CEO Universal Inclusion and The Inclusive Entrepreneur; James Holt, a deaf musician (James Holt Music), Mark Esho (multi award-winning disabled entrepreneur), Aaron Hornback, an entrepreneur running Horizon, a health and wellbeing network, Grant Logan (Ability Today and Academy for Disabled Journalists) and a rep from Creative Entrepreneurs.

The future is going to be more entrepreneurial. More of us will work as self-employed, often in portfolio careers. The future economy will need creativity and innovation in terms of business ideas and start-ups. Enterprise also needs to become more diverse, encouraging those from under-represented groups to become entrepreneurial. This panel will explore the future of enterprise and help you understand how you can be part of that.

Creating a Virtual Festival - Lost Horizons: CONTINENTAL DRIFTS

TUESDAY 17th NOVEMBER 6pm - go to the Stream Room

In July 2020, Lost Horizons (Glastonbury) ran as a virtual festival hosted in Sansar. Festival goers could wander around the site exploring interactive content and stages, just like at a real event. The event proved extremely popular with numerous performances from DJs and acts. Chris Macmeikan MBE, Music Director, and Sam Speight, don of all things VR, from festival veterans Continental Drifts, take you on a journey of how the festival went online.

The music festival is one of the most immersive real experiences there is. Can you create a festival experience virtually? Is this something that is temporary, or is it here to stay? This session will explore all this and more, including a retrospective of Continental Drifts role in providing content for festivals over several decades.

Future of Creativity
Drew Rolands: IVE

ON DEMAND

IVE is a progressive training company that places human creativity at the heart of business productivity and innovation. Drew Rolands is a creativity specialist. He has held senior leadership roles for the past 30 years, all of which have been underpinned by his expert knowledge of leadership, creativity and creative practice. Drew sits on Leeds Chamber of Commerce Leadership Group; is Chair of Education on the board of Shakespeare North.

This live stream will explore the nature of creativity and its role in the future. Participants will come to understand what creativity actually is, and what it isn’t, how creativity leads to innovation and they will explore some of the behaviours needed in order to create an innovation climate. It will cover areas such as:

  • What is creativity?

  • The importance of creativity

  • How we can become more creative

  • The role of creativity in the future workplace

Lighting and Visual Production: Paul Levitt

WEDNESDAY 18th NOVEMBER 6pm - go to the Stream Room

Session delivered by events professional, Paul Levitt, providing an introduction and demonstration of projection mapping and pre-programmed stage lighting, incorporating Qlab, Chamsys MagicQ and HeavyM. The demonstration will include use of OSC control from Qlab to trigger cues and programmes in other software. It will feature pre-recorded and live content using NDI sources as well as the opportunity for Q&A at the end of the session.

The aim will be to demonstrate some possibilities of visual production and stage lighting which can feed into learner projects. The session will also cover using these skills in non-music events and the potential for virtual events.

Creative Futures
Changes in the Event Industries Panel

WEDNESDAY 18th NOVEMBER 7pm - go to the Stream Room

Panel led by Carol Ann Whitehead FRSA (The Zebra Partnership and Diversity Director for Industry Week) on change affecting the event industry. With Emma Cartmell (Conference & Hospitality Group who run the Conference & Hospitality Show), Professor Terance Coffee (LIM and Fashion Institute of Technology, New York), Ciara White (Hellbent Events), and Asha from Marketing at Asha.

The focus of this live stream will be working in the non-music events industry. Most events fall into this category, from shows, exhibitions and sporting events, to weddings, conferences and corporate events, which means that the majority of work is in these areas. The session will also explore diversity in the events sector and the future of the events industry in a period of significant disruption.

10 Steps to a Successful Event: Nadu Placa

THURSDAY 19th NOVEMBER 6pm - go to the Stream Room

Nadu Placa is from The Zoo XYZ, an international team of talented event architects, who are dedicated to elevating brands. This live stream session explores 10 steps to a successful event with advice for young event organisers.

It will provide a comprehensive guide to how to host a successful event, based on ten key areas.

Change and Mental Health
with Jordan Stephens

Jordan Stephens, 28, has already had an exciting and diverse career. Born in Brighton, he formed hip hop duo Rizzle Kicks in 2008 - they have sold over one million singles and over 600,000 albums in the UK. He is also a famous actor, known for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), Last Vegas (2013) and Why Him? (2016). More recently he has created #IAMWHOLE, an anti-stigma mental health initiative developed in partnership with the NHS and YMCA.

This special Q&A session hosted by Sunny Winter (promoter, tour manager and Assistant Manager at Kobalts, looking after clients like Arcade Fire) will cover Jordan's career, demonstrating how having diverse income streams can create a sustainable career. It will also include his work in promoting mental health. The session will cover:

  • Aspirations and inspirations.

  • Music career.

  • Acting career.

  • Mental health and foundation of I Am Whole.

  • Diversity in the music and film industries.

  • Thoughts on the future for music and acting.

This session will be available in the Stream Room on-demand after the event.

Drum Recording Masterclass: Lee Gretton

Lee Gretton is a composer, music producer and the founder of In Production Music - a UK based team of composers, producers and musicians that provide high end music and audio services to a wide range of media industry clients, major record labels and music publishers. Lee's music has amassed hundreds of broadcast credits with notable spots including top ten Netflix shows (Money Heist, Story Bots) as well as AAA global best selling computer games (Ubisoft: The Crew 2, Just Dance). Through its portfolio of publishing and distribution deals, IPM Ltd. is a regular provider of music to Universal, EMI, BMG, BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Disney along with many more well known brands and companies. IPM Ltd. also provides audio post production services with credits including documentaries with Sir David Attenborough and Sir Ian McKellan.

In this video tutorial, Lee will be discussing the tools and techniques he uses to create release ready drum kit recordings, something that can be a bit of a headache particularly when working with tight music production budgets. The session covers his approach to: drum kit recording practices, editing, drum kit mix techniques and drum triggering.

Studio Recording Masterclass:
George Perks

ON DEMAND

George Perks is a recording engineer, mixer and producer based in London. Over recent years he has worked with a wide range of artists including You Me At Six, Maximo Park and Clean Bandit. Since 2016 he has assisted Grammy Award winning engineer/producer Adrian Bushby, making records for artists including The Darkness, Young Guns and Black Peaks.

In 2018 he began working with legendary composer/producer Jeff Wayne, contributing to various projects, including the best-selling Audible production Jeff Wayne’s The War of The Worlds: The Musical Drama.

This session will cover how George did the production for the 2020 track, The Hypnotist by Scottish band North Atlas. It will involve a quick half-hour mix and master of the rough mix with a talk about the guy who mastered it. Check out the original before the session.






7ft Missile - A Career in Media & Music: Eugene Riecansky

Eugene Riecansky of Maxon and Rockstar talks about working in media and music. After 28 years of creating films, motion VFX and CG for brands such as Red Bull, Pixar Animation Studios, Jim Carrey, Massive Attack, Maxon, Vivienne Westwood, The Prodigy and Madonna, Eugene has now turned his focus to inspiring and mentoring like-minded creatives by helping them achieve their creative goals & ambitions.

This short film has been created to offer an insight into some of the projects that Eugene has been involved in with, including some major events and tours.

Production Futures

EVENT - 9th-13th NOVEMBER

Running from 9th-13th November, Production Futures is a week of learning and engagement with the Live Events Production Industry for young people, students and freelancers.

You will be able to learn from the crew behind Stormzy, Glastonbury Festival, Frank Turner, Pendulum, The Blossoms, Spice Girls, Florence & The Machine, Miles Kane, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Bastille, Creamfields and George Ezra.

Hosted by Carol Ann Whitehead FRSA, also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (The Zebra Partnership and Diversity Director for Industry Week) to coincide with Global Entrepreneurship Week. They will discuss the launch of the Inclusive Entrepreneur Network, the involvement of Manchester events and media students in the conference during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2019 and Jacqueline's passion for 'Opening up the Creative Space' and plans going forward.


Art of Leadership: Gillian Davies

This FREE session from Creative Entrepreneurs will examine what it takes to inspire and support others. It will cover:
